Colour of the Trap – A Solo Exhibition Sir Dandy
In the world of printing, a “trap” is a subtle yet vital technique—an overlap between two colors that prevents white gaps from appearing when printed. This overlap, or “trap color,” is typically darker, a hybrid born from two neighboring hues. It symbolizes a convergence—intentional, layered, and deliberate.
Sir Dandy takes this concept beyond the printing press and into storytelling. In his reinterpretation of Little Red Riding Hood, Colour of the Trap becomes a metaphor. It explores the blurred boundaries between innocence and danger, predator and prey, self and other. Who is the wolf? Who is the girl? Or are they both… us?
Through a contemporary lens, Sir Dandy reframes the classic fable with a raw honesty that mirrors the generation he speaks to. His Red Hood is not just a character, but a reflection—of rebellion, vulnerability, and identity. The wolf? Perhaps the lurking threat of modern life, or maybe the desires we try to hide.
Best known as the frontman of Teenage Death Star, Sir Dandy brings the same unfiltered energy from his music into his visual art. His practice is spontaneous yet purposeful, wild but grounded in truth. It’s this authenticity—unapologetically expressive—that makes his work distinct in Indonesia’s creative scene.
